This was due to a combination of Alabama’s Khyla Wade-Warren with 24 points, eight rebounds and three assists, and a lack of production in the second half, because of a “lot of kids playing a lot of minutes” according to Auburn Head coach Johnie Harris.
The night before the game, people had begun living in tents in order to secure a seat for this blockbuster matchup, creating the nickname “Jungle City”. The inhabitants of Jungle City were treated to an Auburn win thanks to a first-pick caliber performance by Jabari Smith, and dominance from Walker Kessler with 17 points.
The Tigers would go on to dominate the Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry, 83-60 thanks to Walker Kessler with 15 points, a double-double from Wendell Green JR and a loyal and loud Auburn Crowd.
“It’s what won the Alabama game and it's what won the game tonight, our second half defense,” Auburn head coach Bruce Pearl said.

Auburn was outrebounded 50-35 , and the Tigers did not hit a three-pointer until there was less than two minutes to go in the game, going 1-13 from downtown.
Although it was not a perfect game for the Tigers they were still able to get it done thanks to a raucous Auburn crowd, and a combination of K.D Johnson’s 23 points and Walker Kessler’s eight rebounds.
For Auburn, this is the second straight SEC loss on the road. The Tigers return home on Sunday, Jan. 9 for a big matchup against No. 13 LSU.
In the SEC opener, Alabama would hold on to win 56-53.

The Auburn Tigers (9-1) came into Auburn Arena on the back of a five-game win streak with their most recent win coming against The Nebraska Cornhuskers, on Saturday December 11th in neutral Atlanta Georgia, ending 99-68.

The No. 21 Auburn Tigers basketball team defeated the University of Central Florida Knights Wednesday evening inside Auburn Arena 85-68. After losing against the Knights a year ago on the road, the Tigers successfully defended their home floor. Auburn used a strong second half to pull away, outscoring the Knights by 14.
The Auburn Tigers (4-3) played its last game of November, hosting the University of North Florida Ospreys (5-3) in a thrilling matchup in which both teams went shot for shot.
It was the first Iron Bowl ever to go into overtime and Alabama's first road Iron Bowl win since 2015.
The Tigers will now turn their heads to in-state rival Alabama in the regular-season Iron Bowl finale next Saturday on Nov. 27. Kick-off is set for 2:30 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on CBS.
