Auburn Volleyball falls to No. 8 Kentucky in Three Sets

It was senior day for Auburn Volleyball but the No. 8 Kentucky Wildcats were too much for the Tigers, winning their fifth straight match in straight sets 3-0.

The Wildcats were dominant in the first two sets, winning the first 25-13 and the second 25-10. The Tigers tried to rally in the third set, taking the lead at the open but Kentucky responded quickly and eventually took the third set 25-20 to get the sweep at Auburn Arena.

Kentucky finished the match with 45 kills and 11 errors on 105 attacks, giving them a .324 hit percentage this evening. They were as impressive on the defensive side with nine blocks and 55 digs. 

Alli Stumler led the team in kills with 14 and Madi Skinner was not far behind with 10. Emma Grome had a double-double in the match with 33 assists and 10 digs. 

Auburn struggled on both ends through the match with only 25 kills and 22 errors on 106 attacks, giving them a .028 hit percentage.

For Auburn, the highlight came from Rebekah Rath setting the Auburn single season record for kills in a season with 414. Rath finished the match with 10 kills, the only Tiger in double digits.

Jackie Barrett finished another match with a double-double, wracking up 18 assists and 12 digs. Bella Rosenthal led the team in digs with 15.

Auburn falls to 13-13 on the season (5-11 SEC) while the No. 8 Wildcats move to 21-4 (14-1 SEC). Both teams will face off again tomorrow in Auburn’s final home match of the year. The match will be broadcast live at 1 p.m. CST on WEGL 91.1 FM and in conjunction with the Auburn Sports Network.
