Playing their fourth game in seven days, the Auburn Tigers looked to continue their momentum from Thursday night’s monumental home upset of Tennessee on the road against Vanderbilt. For the first couple minutes, it looked like the Tigers still had that same momentum as they built a 7-0 lead; however, from there, it went south in a hurry for Auburn. Vanderbilt used a 22-2 run in the first quarter to take a double-digit lead, stretched their lead to 25 by halftime, and cruised in the second half to an 81-66 win. The loss leaves Auburn with a 9-11 record overall and a 1-8 mark in league play. Meanwhile the Commodores improve to 12-10 (3-5 SEC).

The Auburn defense kept the Tigers in the game throughout, but eventually the Tigers’ offensive woes doomed their hopes of a third straight win over a ranked SEC West foe. Auburn (No. 13, 6-3, 3-2 SEC) went into the locker room with a 3-3 tie but could never get on the scoreboard in the second half. Kyle Field, the home turf of the Texas A&M Aggies (No. 14, 6-2, 3-2 SEC) is one of the largest and loudest stadiums in college football and is known everywhere as the home of the 12th man. The two teams have played nine times since A&M joined the SEC and the road team has compiled a perplexing 8-1 mark in those nine games. This includes Auburn’s 4-0 mark at Kyle Field. For the second time in as many games, No. 18 Auburn (6-2, 3-1 SEC) took down a ranked SEC West foe. Two weeks ago, the Arkansas Razorbacks fell victim to the Tigers, and tonight, in the friendly confines of Jordan-Hare Stadium, it was No. 10 Ole Miss (6-2, 3-2 SEC) falling at the hands of the Tigers by a 31-20 margin. The Tigers controlled the game from start to finish in front of a raucous home crowd as they never trailed after scoring a touchdown on their opening possession. After the offense carried the team in the first half, it was the defense’s turn to carry the load in a low scoring second half. Despite the offense struggling a bit in the second half, Auburn was able to run out the clock in crunch time with some big first downs on the ground. More importantly, Auburn is also in control of their own destiny in the SEC West as one of only two teams left in the division with only one loss in league play entering a pivotal stretch of league games in the month of November.
