No. 23 Auburn (10-3-0, 4-2-0 SEC) will look to stay undefeated at home in SEC play this Sunday when they play host to the Florida Gators (3-8-3, 2-3-1 SEC). Kickoff is slated for noon at the Auburn Soccer Complex. Auburn has had a full week of rest since they were on the pitch last Sunday against LSU. Auburn downed the Bayou Bengals 1-0 on Marissa Arias’ golden goal in overtime last time out. Auburn will continue to look to keep up in the SEC race as the Tigers are tied for fourth overall in the SEC and tied with Arkansas for first in the SEC West.
Auburn has turned in back-to-back shutouts in their last two league games. Those were sophomore goalkeeper Maddie Prohaska’s fifth and sixth shutouts of the season. Prohaska’s six shutouts is tied for first in the SEC, and she also ranks third in the league with an 0.84 goals against average. Prohaska has not been the only Tiger instrumental in posting six shutouts. Seniors Alyssa Malonson and M.E. Craven have formed a formidable duo in front of Prohaska on the Auburn backline. Malonson was recognized by Top Drawer Soccer last week for her performances in shutouts of Mississippi State and LSU. The senior played all 183 minutes and assisted on Arias’ game winner against LSU.
Marissa Arias’ golden goal against LSU was the sixth of the season for the redshirt sophomore. Arias has scored all six of her goals during the last eight contests. She is also tied for SEC lead with four goals in league action. Arias has also added two assists to give her 14 total points on the year.
For the opposition, Florida is led in scoring by Kit Loferski with four goals and eight points. In the crease, the Gators will start sophomore goalie Alexa Goldberg. Goldberg is tied for the SEC lead 69 saves but has also allowed 23 goals on the season.
