WEGL Spotlight: Tuesday Radio Shows

No matter if you’re face deep in Canvas quiz or crushing crunchy tacos at Inkspot, Tuesday’s WEGL shows have got you covered with a wide array of entertainment meeting virtually any need. Come hang out and listen to country classics, punchy grunge, and timeless oldies, all broadcasted by your friends at WEGL 91.1.

K-Radio

Join Lydiannah Cunningham each week for the magic hour of K-pop, exploring those fun, bouncy synth hits. Not just Korean, K-Radio looks at K-pop from around the world.

Initially getting into K-pop during middle school, Lydiana watched and participated in the development of the Western K-pop fanbase. Nowadays, she seeks to break the stereotypes that surround K-pop culture (K-Culture).

With favorite artists such as ENHYPEN and P1Harmony, Lydiana brings bouncy fun to her listeners each week.

The Flashlight Holder

Embrace your inner divorced parent, as each week Heath Abrams and Halle Lancaster crank up the volume for some angsty alternative rock. With Artists like Paramore, Deftones, Smashing Pumpkins, each week Heath and Halle bring the heat.

Abrams, a senior in Psychology, came up with the idea based on his love for music his father exposed him to. He later brought on Lancaster, a sophomore in Environmental Science, to round out this raging, rambunctious hour of fun.

Tune in each week Tuesdays at 4pm to rage to your hearts content.

Wild Card

Come hang out with Lucy Taylor and friends each week on Wild Card, where you never know what might play next. Taylor’s rotation of guests and themes keeps this show feeling truly wild. Frequently joined by friends Davien Kenvongsa and Emma Jacoway, the group starts each week by picking a random theme and at least one “wild card” song.

Taylor, a junior in psychology, started the show as a way to further connect with friends through music. Promoting discussion, relaxation, and of course fun, Wild Card provides a chilled out space to relax with your friends and jam out.

From roadtrips, to particular genres, colors, and Shrek, it’s impossible to say exactly what you’ll hear, except that it’s always a good time. Tune in Tuesdays at 5pm.

Golden Country

The country music you and your folks grew up on. That’s what smooth talking host Jimmy Nash wants to provide on his show Golden Country.

From a rural town in North Alabama, Jimmy’s love for country knows no bounds. Tune in each week to hear the sweet licks of Eric Church, Kenny Chesney, and Chris Stapleton. Provided with comedic commentary in Nash’s deep bass voice, Golden Country represents a more authentic side of country music and Southern Rock.

Listening to songs you’d hear on from boats on Lake Martin, come hang out with a host who “loves fishing in the dark.” Tuesdays at 6pm.

Golden Oldies

You’ve found the sound! On Golden Oldies, the cool Dr. Hepcat brings a collection of vinyls and 45”s, turning back the clock with silky smooth soul and boisterous blues from the 50s and 60s.

Twenty seven years running, the show’s calming presence and timeless hits are an iconic and unmissable piece of Auburn culture. With over fifty years of radio experience, Dr. Hepcat is a master whose knowledge and expertise provide for one of the best listening experiences WEGL has to offer. With classic 50s stars such as Elvis Presley, Fats Domino, and Jerry Lee Lewis, make sure not to miss this iconic show.

Tune in Tuesdays at 7-9pm and, “Let the good times roll!”
