Auburn can’t squeeze past Golden Knights

The Auburn Tigers (3-3) fell to a two-game losing streak this past Monday after a 60-53 loss on the road in Orlando Florida against the UCF Golden Knights (4-0). A game that saw nine lead changes and a career day for sophomore Sydney Shaw.

Shaw would finish the matchup with a career-high 17 points. Shaw would add on to her total with three rebounds.

Auburn as a whole would rebound well with 34 total to UCF’s 24, Auburn also had a special presence on the offence’s boards with 12 total, leading to 12 second chance points.

Auburn’s shooting was the problem child of the trip only shooting 21-55 from the floor and 2-15 from three. Auburn also could not find footing at the cheery stripe as Auburn went 9-16, compared to UCF’s 11-13 from the cherry stripe.

"They came out in the second half against our 3-2 zone and knocked down some 3s," Auburn head coach Johnnie Harris said. "That was the difference in the ballgame. We had to get out of our zone. We missed shots, then tried to play half-court with them. We executed, but we didn't hit shots. And then when we got fouled, we missed our free throws.

Only Taylen Collins passed the double-digit mark for points with 11 in total, Collins would also add eight rebounds to her stat line.

Both the Tigers and Knights capitalized off turnovers with Auburn scoring 23 points off turnovers and UCF having 24 of their points coming off turnovers. Auburn would end the matchup with 18 turnovers and UCF would end with 20 turnovers.

For five times in the fourth quarter Auburn would pull within two points of the Knights but could not find their way into leading when time expired inside Orlando Florida, as Auburn lost 60-53.

"The effort was there tonight,” said Harris. “We just missed shots and missed free throws."

Auburn will be back in action on November 26th against Alabama A&M inside Neville Arena at 2:00 pm CT, with coverage starting 15 minutes before tipoff on the Auburn Sports Network.
