Auburn falls to Georgia in SEC Tournament

After securing the 10th seed this past Sunday in a close win over Vanderbilt. The Auburn Tigers (15-14 SEC: 5-11) ended their Tournament run after losing to the Georgia Bulldogs (21-10 SEC: 9-7) 63-47.

The 44th appearance for the Tigers got off to a hot start as Aichia Coulibaly, who was just recently named to the All-SEC second team for the second year in a row, made a jumper to take an early lead, but the Bulldogs soon pulled away as Audry Warren hit a three as Georgia led after the end of the first period 12-10.

Coulibaly would go on to be the scoring leader with 13 points, as well as adding nine rebounds and four steals. The other Auburn player to score double digits was Sydney Shaw who finished with 12 of the 19 bench points, with four assists and three rebounds.

Georgia would dominate the second period, most of the heavy lifting coming from Diamon Battles who would go on to lead the bulldogs with 18 points. Auburn shot a total of 33% from the field, as Georgia would go on to lead going into the second half 38-25.

"We had a hard time getting good, open looks or finding a person that was open," Auburn head coach Johnnie Harris said. "We pretty much followed our defensive game plan. We just weren't able to score against their zone.”

The second half would not fare any better for the Tigers as they were outscored 25-22. Leading to a final score of 63-47.

Auburn was not able to win the rebounding battle as Georgia dominated the stat line winning 38-27. Georgia was able to win the beyond-the-arc battle as Georgia shot 56% from the three-point line on nine shots.

Although the SEC tournament may be over the NCAA tournament is still to come as the selection show is Sunday, March 12 at 7:00 pm.
