Back to Good Ol’ Rocky Top – Auburn Volleyball Defeats the Tennessee Lady Vols 3-1

Auburn, AL: It was a crazy night inside Neville Arena as the Auburn Tigers won a hard-fought contest between the Tennessee Lady Vols 3-1 (25-15, 25-13, 29-27, 27-25). The four-set matchup looked much closer on the final score then it did during the match.

The first set saw the Tigers win easy 25-15. After going on a six and five point streak during the set, there was little the Lady Vols could to do counter the attack of Auburn’s Madison Scheer, Kendal Kemp and Akasha Anderson.

The second set was no different from the first with the Tigers taking this set 25-13. As was the story of the first set, the Tigers never allowed the Lady Vols to get into a rhythm offensively. Auburn once again was able to get it clicking with their attacks, accruing 16 kills with a .389 hitting percentage. The Lady Vols helped out the Auburn attack, giving up seven attack errors to the Tigers.

On the break of elimination, the Lady Vols were able to find just enough in the tank to extend the match to a fourth set, after winning the third set 29-27. The Lady Vols were able to clean up their attack errors from the previous set, while also figuring it out offensively, getting 17 kills with a .389 hitting percentage.

After losing the chance for the sweep, Auburn responded by coming out on top in the fourth set 27-25. While Auburn had fewer kills then the Lady Vols in this set, Tennessee’s 9 attacking error sand .167 hitting percentage allowed the Tigers to take advantage of these mistakes to win the match

After this match, Auburn now sits at 15-4 overall with a 7-2 record in conference play. Auburn will be back in action on October 26th at 7 PM in Neville Arena to take on the Florida Gators in a very important game to determine who will move into second place in the SEC. Coverage of this match will be on the SEC Network and over the radio on WEGL 91.1 FM.
