Get to Know WEGL's Live Event Director!

Year: Senior

Major: Public Relations (Business minor)

Position: Live Events Director

How did you find out about WEGL?

I found out about WEGL through my involvement at Eagle Eye and my need for more involvement to put on my resume. The two media organizations share mutual office space and I realized that I was not passionate about television and news production. Because my love for music has led me in the direction of pursuing work in the music industry, I made the switch. I emailed my resume to the station manager and she asked if I would be interested in starting a live events committee and being the director of it. I was eager to get started and so thankful for the opportunity I have had and the lessons I have learned. My work at WEGL 91.1 solidified my interest in the music and entertainment industries and the people there are constant encouragers for both my personal interests and professional endeavors.

What made you want to apply for your position?

I was asked to be the first live events director for WEGL 91.1 and my love for concerts and live performances made taking the chance worthwhile. Although a lot of the work this past year has been in an effort to set up contacts and opportunities for those who will follow me, my work as live events director has taught me so much about future opportunities in the industry. I was able to set up events and organize information that will make live events for Auburn's campus and community realistic in the future, and I am very proud of that.

Favorite WEGL Memory:

My favorite WEGL memory would have to be the times when I had the opportunity to chat with people in the bullpen and office. Just sitting with the other students that were invested in the organization and loved music has been an incredible experience.

Favorite Song Lyric:

There are, in reality, too many to pick from, but one simple line that I will forever love is from Fleetwood Mac...  "You can go your own way." It's simple but important to me. Especially in the music industry, it's essential to not be afraid to make your own path and do your own thing. This line just makes me think in that mindset and the song itself is one of my all-time favorites.

If you could only listen to one album for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?

Now, this is an impossible question. I could go anywhere from Born in the U.S.A. (Bruce Springsteen), Jesus Is King (Kanye West), Rumours (Fleetwood Mac), Flicker (Niall Horan), Fine Line (Harry Styles) or Mr. Misunderstood (Eric Church) and to tell you the truth, I could come up with a million more. So, I guess I would just have to break the rules and listen to a lot of albums.
