Auburn's Quest for First SEC Win Falls Short vs. Mississippi St in Three Sets

As the calendar turns to November, the struggles stay the same for Auburn volleyball, as they lose to Mississippi State in straight sets (27-25, 25-21, 25-22) Friday night at Auburn Arena.

The first set has highly competitive, as both teams battled for the lead, but it was the Bulldogs who went on to win the first set.

The second set featured extensive runs for Auburn and Mississippi State, as the Bulldogs led by as much as nine. Auburn stormed back with an impressive scoring run to cut into the lead, but the Bulldogs found enough energy to pull away with the second set win.

Down 2-0, the Tigers were facing a deficit they knew was all too familiar in SEC play.

The decisive third set was filled with plenty of action, but the game ended on a controversial call, as Mississippi State came out with the set, and most importantly, the victory over Auburn.

Lily Thompson and Tatum Shipes each had 10 kills for the Tigers, while Amarrah Cooks led the Bulldogs with eight kills.

Auburn’s Morgan Kull and Mississippi State’s Alleah Stamatis both had 28 assists for their respective teams.

Auburn (6-15, 0-10 SEC) now travels to Baton Rouge to face off against LSU (10-10, 4-6 SEC) Wednesday at 7 p.m.
