Auburn, Ala.-- Spicer’s Music, a local music retail and lessons store, won the Music Makes a Diefference award and was named Retailer of the Year by the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM). Spicer’s was able to accept the awards at the annual NAMM show in Anaheim, California.
For the Retailer of the Year award, NAMM gathers finalists for all nine award categories including Best Music Lesson Program, Best Customer Service and Best Community Retail Store among others. Winning this award has marked a major milestone for the Auburn music store.
“Since opening its doors in 2012, Spicer’s Music has grown into far more than a retail store. It has become a gathering place where musicians of all ages and abilities find encouragement, connection and inspiration,” said Dan Del Fiorentino on NAMM’s website.
The store was founded by Tom Spicer and Tim Spicer, both Auburn Unievrsity graduates, and it has grown over the years. According to a Spicer’s Music press release, the company now employs over 40 people and serves musicians throughout East Alabama.
“Our mission has always been about serving people well through music, and this award is a direct result of the consistency, care, and teamwork our staff brings to that mission every single day,” said Jonathan Hendrix, Chief Operating Officer of Spicer’s Music.
Spicer’s Music was also honored to receive NAMM’S Music Makes a Difference award, in addition to Retailer of the Year.
According to Spicer’s Music, this win was thanks to the creation of She Collective (SheCo), a music community that centers women and women’s experiences. SheCo is led by Assistant Manager Jessie Osborne.
“SheCo began as a way to create space for women in music to feel connected and supported,” Osborne said in a press release. “Seeing it recognized at this level is incredibly meaningful, and it speaks to the power of community when people are given the opportunity to showcase their talents and be supported.”
This store has served as Auburn’s music center, empowering the community not only through music retail but also by offering music lessons for all ages, instrument repair and audio/visual and staging production rentals.
“While we’re proud of the recognition, what matters most to us is the people we get to serve. This award belongs to our staff, our students, our customers, and the community that continues to support us,” said Tim Spicer, co-owner of Spicer’s Music.
