Fall is here again and with it brings (hopefully) cooler weather, new faces around town, and Auburn’s premier music festival once again. But for those of us who are new to the area, or even those who want to know what all the fuss is about, what is Aubfest?
Aubfest is a music festival that takes place every fall and spring, located right here in Auburn! This fall’s festival has over 25 regional artists and bands, allowing the festival to take place over 3 days for the first time. While not affiliated with Auburn University, the event is primarily run by our very own students. In fact, the event is organized by 3 full time students, including Aiden Calderon-Wyant, the Outreach & Community Programs Coordinator, who WEGL chatted with yesterday.
This semester the festival is taking place from Oct. 3 to 5 at Boggin’ on the Plains, a local RV park. There’s going to be two stages, the Main Stage where most of the bands will be playing and “The Grove,” the community stage where you can find demonstrations, comedy acts, improv, and more music! The event is BYOB (No Glass!!!) and is open for tent, car, and RV camping. Tickets are $30 online and $35 at the door. There’s showers and water available to guests, but please remember your disposable water bottles.
The best thing about Aubfest is the community. You’ll find people camping, laying out on the grass, laughing with friends around the stage, browsing the vendor stalls, and listening to the music. Everyone is so welcoming and so excited to be here. So if you come ready to have fun and listen to the music, you’re sure to have a good time surrounded by new and old friends.
The music begins at 4:50pm on Friday but make sure to get there early because admission opens at 4:00pm! During the music, there’s even vendors set up selling handmade crafts, arts, and other goodies for you to peruse. On Saturday morning, we kick things off at 8am with a DJ! At 10:15am music officially starts on the Grove stage and at the Main Stage at 10:45am.
Aubfest, in simplest terms, is a twice-yearly music festival hosted here in Auburn that features mainly local DIY artists. But it is so much more than just a music festival. It is a celebration of the local arts and a true reunion of the Auburn art and music community.
