AUBURN, Ala. - The Auburn bats showed no mercy in this three game set against South Carolina, outscoring the Gamecocks 46-15 and sweeping the series.
The first game of this series saw the Auburn offense bring 24 runs across on 20 hits. Cam Tilly secured his third win of the season as he pitched five innings of one-run ball all while recording six strikeouts.
The South Carolina offense could not match the Tigers tenacity and match their scoring, while they struck first on an RBI double off the bat of Nathan Hall, they never got much going offensively as the game went on.
Chris Rembert could do no wrong in the batter's box, bringing in six runs alone, and going 4-for-5 at the plate. Rembert continues to stay hot after winning SEC Player of the Week a while back.
Eric Guevara had himself a five RBI game, with a grand slam and an RBI double. Guevara continues to put together a respectable sophomore campaign with 20 runs batted in.
Auburn wrapped the first game of the series up quick in seven innings, run-ruling South Carolina en route to a 24-2 victory.
The second game of the series was the first of a double header, where South Carolina put up a fight against Auburn. This game saw the two heroes of the previous one, re-emerge and once again lead their team to victory. Rembert went 3-for-6 at the plate while Guevara went 4-for-5.
The Tigers would take the win in walk-off fashion with a Guevara single that brought in Rembert to seal the deal for Auburn.
The pitching on both sides of game two, both starting and relief, let up a lot of runs. Samuel Dutton, the starter for Auburn, gave up five runs on eight hits in four innings. Jake McCoy got the start for the Gamecocks and although he recorded seven strikeouts, he gave up seven runs, with only one being unearned.
The relief pitching for South Carolina sedated the sporadic Tiger offense in the second game of this three game set. The Gamecocks tied the game in the top of the ninth to leave it to Auburn to walk it off–and that they did and took an 11-10 victory.
The final game of this series was another slugfest for the Tigers, and again South Carolina couldn't keep up.
Guevara was on an absolute tear this series; he went 4-for-5 at the plate again, but it was Lucas Steele who reached base every time in this game, going 4-for-4. The Gamecocks struck first in this game, bringing three runs across. The Tigers answered the call with eleven unanswered.
