HOOVER, Ala. - No. 11 Auburn took a weekend series win from the Mississippi State Bulldogs this past weekend, winning the first and third game but dropping the second. With this series win they claim their fifth series victory in conference play.
Auburn’s bats roared in the first four innings and brought eleven runs across, six of which coming in the second. Auburn provided ample run support for Cam Tilly, who stepped on the mound as a starter for the first time.
The Tigers next conference series begins on Friday, May 2 against the Tennessee Volunteers. Before they go up to Rocky Top they’ll travel to Hoover Metropolitan Stadium for a midweek game against the Samford Bulldogs.
Samford is coming off of a victory themselves against Western Colorado on Sunday. Samford lost both games in a double header on Saturday, salvaging the series and avoiding a sweep Sunday.
If Auburn wants to win, they should limit Cade Carr as he’s hitting .352 (56-for-159) on the season, as well as Jeffery Ince, who’s hitting .331 (54-for-163). On the offensive side Auburn hopes for Chris Rembert to continue mashing; this past week he won SEC player of the week and he’s the first freshman to receive the honor this season.
Samford is set to start Heath Clevinger Tuesday night, Clevinger holds an 8.31 ERA this season with a single win on his record. Auburn is scheduled to start Christian Chatterton; Chatterton’s record is 2-1 with a 4.58 ERA.
The last time these two teams went at it Auburn prevailed with a 15-8 victory. Auburn has won the last five matchups against Samford and since 2001 they are 25-13. First pitch is set for 6:00 p.m. CT on the Auburn Sports Network.
