Tigers and Aggies face off looking to strengthen March résumés

AUBURN, Ala. – The Auburn Tigers (16-10, 5-8) host the Texas A&M Aggies (18-8, 6-7) Sunday afternoon in Neville Arena. Both teams are looking for statement wins as the push for March basketball hits its final stretch.

The Tigers sit at tenth place in the SEC standings and number 50 in the NET rankings, firmly on the inside edge of the NCAA Tournament bubble. They enter this game after a tough week with road losses at Alabama and No. 13 LSU. A week ago in Tuscaloosa, Auburn led by ten entering the fourth quarter, but the Crimson Tide would not be denied, and escaped with a 67-61 home win. On the road in Baton Rouge on Wednesday night, Auburn lost another close game against a loaded LSU squad by a score of 71-66.

It will be the third game in seven days for Joni Taylor’s Aggies coming off a week featuring an 81-58 home loss to LSU and a bounce back 73-67 win over Arkansas. Texas A&M is number 35 in the NET rankings and eighth in the SEC. They are very likely to make the NCAA Tournament, but have tough stretch of games to finish the season, going on the road to Auburn and Tennessee, and then wrapping up with Alabama back in College Station.

The Tigers will look yet again to fifth-year senior Honesty Scott-Grayson to lead them to their sixth conference win. The All-SEC talent averages 18.2 points per game, good for third most in the conference.

Seniors Jamya Mingo-Young and Taylen Collins are looking to finish their first year on the Plains with an NCAA Tournament bid. The pair have helped to fill in the gaps around Scott-Grayson averaging a combined 17.6 points, 11.5 rebounds, and 4.8 assists.

The Tigers and Aggies tip off at 2 p.m. Sunday on SEC Network + and the Auburn Sports Network.
