Auburn Soccer Draws With Texas A&M in a Scoreless Game

AUBURN, Ala. - The Tigers had yet another scoreless game at home as they struggled against the Texas A&M Aggies 0-0 today. This is the third 0-0 game they’ve encountered this season, and the first draw they’ve had against Texas A&M in program history.

It was an intense goalkeeper matchup between Auburn’s Maddie Prohaska and Texas A&M’s Kenna Caldwell. Throughout the game, Caldwell finished with six saves, while Prohaska finished with seven, with one of them becoming possibly a top SportsCenter moment.

Prohaska now has 50 saves this season. If she gets eight more, she could become the sixth goalkeeper in school history to have 250 saves or more. Prohaska is a little disappointed on the result today but is optimistic that things could turn around.

“We were hungry for a shutout,” the Ohio native said, “Obviously, we didn’t get one on the board, but we handled a lot of the details right today. We’re still trying to have our best performance on both ends of the ball for the full 90, but there is nothing to hang our heads about.”

The Aggies were more aggressive offensively as they had 13 shots and seven of them on goal, with three coming from Sam Smith, two from Carissa Boeckmann, and one from Sydney Becerra and Jazmine Wilkinson. The Tigers still fought hard with 10 shots and six of them on goal, with three coming from Anna Haddock, two from Sydney Richards, and one from Sydnie Thibodaux.

The Tigers now have a 1-2-2 record and are sixth in the SEC West division, only ahead of the Crimson Tide. This was the game they desperately had to win in order to get a better seed in the SEC Soccer Tournament, or even make it. Meanwhile, the Aggies have a 3-1-1 record and trails Arkansas in second place in the division.

Even though the Tigers did not win the game, they still celebrated with fireworks after the game. After all, this is their second to last home game, as time is ticking for the seniors. Luckily, Senior Night is next Sunday, so the seniors could hopefully have a game to remember that night.

There was still a lot of energy at the game as well, as there was an attendance of 723. A lot of kids also got to see Aubie and other fun-loving mascot characters as well.

Auburn Soccer will look to get some points on Thursday, October 19, as they head to Gainesville to take on the Florida Gators at 5 p.m. CST on SECN+. The Tigers will have their last home game of the season and Senior Night against the LSUTigers on Sunday, October 22, at 4 p.m. on the SEC Network. Finally, the Tigers will have a huge last hurrah for a tournament push in Athens, as they face the Georgia Bulldogs on Thursday, October 26, at 5 p.m. on SECN+.
