Unfortunate reality check for Tigers, Auburn falls to Aggies in College Station

A story heard so many times it sounds like a broken record, the Auburn offense fails to find success against Texas A&M, falling 27-10 in College Station.

This game felt eerily similar to Auburn’s 2021 loss at Texas A&M. It was so comparable, this afternoon’s contest was the first time the Auburn offense didn’t find the end zone since that 2021 loss.

The question surrounding Auburn this week was whether or not the Tigers would be effective on the offensive side of the ball, especially through the air. Unfortunately for the Tigers, it did not take long for the answer to be unveiled.

With just about as many completions (9) as sacks allowed (7), the Auburn offense was unable to get out of its own way.

“Offensively, we’re searching. And we’ve got to find some answers,” Auburn head coach Hugh Freeze stated post-game.

The Auburn carousel continued this afternoon at quarterback, with all three receiving playing time. As a collective group, Auburn threw for 56 yards on only nine completions.

The running game was open at times, but with the inability to throw the ball downfield, A&M was able to stack the box inside.

The bright side for this Auburn group is that the defense is as legit as paper reads. The Aggies were held to field goals in both of their first two drives, and that was the only scoring success in the first half.

Auburn added a 53-yard field goal within the final minute from the leg of Alex McPherson.

The A&M offense behind backup quarterback, Max Johnson, found the end zone in their first two drives of the second half. However, those touchdowns were layered between four straight three-and-outs from the Auburn offensive, lasting a combined five minutes and 17 seconds.

The Auburn defense stuck around as long as they could, even putting points on the board themselves.

The touchdown came via a scoop-and-score, with Eugene “LET’S WORK” Asante picking up the fumble and taking it 67 yards to the end zone.

“I want it to sting any time we don’t have success on the field, but failure is part of life and how we handle that is what matters,” head coach Hugh Freeze said. “We’ll learn a lot about us.”

Unfortunately the Tigers, entering their gauntlet SEC schedule, only have one week to “learn a lot about us”, as Freeze’s squad welcome the big dawgs (no pun intended) to town next week.
