Yohan Traore and Chance Westry plan to enter the transfer portal

Auburn, Ala. – Auburn freshman Yohan Traore and Chance Westry plan to enter the transfer portal Tuesday afternoon.

"I would like to thank the Auburn community for embracing and supporting me throughout my time here," Traore said a statement posted to his Instagram. "I will always remember and appreciate you, but the time has come for me to enter the transfer portal and take that next step as a basketball player. Thank you all for respecting my decision.”

Traore was the No. 13 player in the class of 2022 and the third-highest signee in program history. The forward was released from his national letter of intent from LSU before coming to play for Bruce Pearl.

The former five-star recruit played 9.9 minutes while averaging 2.1 points and 1.4 rebounds per game this season.

Auburn guard Chance Westry seems to be following in Traore's footsteps, as he will reportedly enter the transfer portal. Joe Tipton of ON3Sports was the first to report Westry's decision. The freshman has not officially announced his future plans, but multiple sources have reported that Westry will be taking his talents elsewhere ahead of next season.

Westry was ranked as the No. 39 overall player in the 2022 class.

After having a knee procedure performed before the season, Westry’s development seemed to have slowed greatly due to the missed time. The guard appeared in only 11 games averaging 2.5 points in 9.5 minutes of action per game. Following the lackluster performances, Westey was shut down before deciding to take a redshirt year.

With Westry and Traore departing from the program it will open two scholarship spots on the roster.
