Auburn cruise past UAB for eighth straight win

AUBURN, Ala. – No. 20 Auburn softball (10-1) was back in action Wednesday hosting UAB (7-5). Behind a dominate showing in all aspects of the game, the Tigers were able to secure their eight consecutive victory of the season over the Blazers by a score of 10-1.

The bats were hot for the Tigers right out of the gate. Bri Ellis, Annabelle Widra and Icess Tresvik all hit home runs to help Auburn secure their sixth run-rule victory of the season.

Tresvik now leads the team with four home runs. The sophomore has played a crucial part for Auburn on both sides of the game after transferring from North Carolina A&T.

"The weight room has been helping me," Tresvik said. "Jessie (Blaine) has been pushing me in the weight room. The coaches are pushing me and the team every day to be perfect. I'm not going to be perfect, but I always strive to be."

Jessie Blaine contributed in a big way during the game by hitting a ball through the gap for an RBI early in the first inning which set the stage for Ellis and Widra to make their marks.

"I'm proud of us for coming out here and putting five runs on the board in the first inning," Ellis said. "It doesn't matter who you are playing. That can be hard to do, especially in a midweek. I think we did a good job of staying focused and turning it around from school to game."

Auburn impressed equally, if not more, on the defensive side.

Maddie Penta continued her dominance, pitching three innings without allowing a hit to the Blazers. The junior stuck out three over that span to bring her season total to 58 in route to her seventh win of the year.

Shelby Lowe and Widra both saw action in the fourth and fifth innings. The pair both went one inning in an attempt to keep the perfect game going. However, the effort would come up short in the fourth inning when Sierra Frazier of UAB hit a solo home run out to center field.

Despite giving up a hit, Widra was able to collect a pair of strikeouts in her lone inning to bring her season total to 20, second on the team only to Penta.

Auburn will be back in action this weekend as they host the Plainsman Invite. Merrimack, Brown and North Dakota State will join the Tigers in the invitational.

For the Tigers, they will look to close out an 11-game homestand undefeated to extend their winning streak to 11 games.

Auburn will start off the weekend with a double-header against Merrimack followed by Brown. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. CT.
