Auburn bests Arkansas in 2023 home opener

Another outstanding performance by Suni Lee helps Auburn to victory in their first home meet of the 2023 campaign.

The No. 7 Auburn Tigers (2-3, 1-1 SEC) secured a 197.500-196.675 victory over the No. 25 Arkansas Razorbacks (1-2, 0-2 SEC).

"Great crowd, love the atmosphere, and we needed everything that we could get from them, and they gave it to us," Auburn coach Jeff Graba said. "It was a really tight, tough fight all the way through and I think it makes you better when you go through that. I'm really proud of the team."

Auburn was on vault and Arkansas was on bars in the first rotation. The Tigers finished with a 49.275, led by Suni Lee's 9.950. The Razorbacks finished with a 49.225, led by Norah Flatley's 9.900.

Auburn remained in front after the second rotation, receiving a team score of 49.375 on bars. Lee led this event as well, receiving a 9.975. Arkansas posted a team score of 49.325 on vault, Frankie Price leading the way with a 9.900.

The third rotation saw the Tigers on beam and the Razorbacks on floor. Auburn posted a 49.300 as a team. Sophia Groth and Gabby McLaughlin led the way, both receiving a 9.900. Arkansas also posted a 49.300 as a team. Flatley and Lauren Williams both put up a 9.900. Auburn held a 147.950-147.850 lead through three rotations.

Auburn finished the meet on floor, recording a 49.550 as a team. Arkansas finished up on beam, recording a 48.725 team score. Lee led the Tigers on floor as well with a 9.975. Cami Weaver led the Razorbacks on beam with a 9.950

Lee was the meet's highest overall scorer with a 39.750. The highest scorer for the Razorbacks was Flatley with a 39.950.

"It felt amazing to be back home in front of the crowd," Lee said. "It was an absolutely amazing environment. It felt so positive. It felt really good to be back with the family."

Auburn will be back in action next Friday night, taking on the North Carolina State Wolfpack at home in Neville Arena. The meet is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. CT.
