Concert Review: Arlo Parks at The Eastern

October 12th, 2022 | Atlanta, GA

Arlo Parks caps off her "Collapsed In Sunbeams" tour in Atlanta, GA with a night of passion and performance that overshadowed a drizzly day.

Twenty-five shows dotting the United States made up Arlo's tour. Supporting her debut studio album, Collapsed In Sunbeams, Arlo Parks put the pen to other paper and inked herself into the minds of the audience with her show.

Puma Blue served as support on the final leg of Arlo's tour. The London-to-Atlanta singer felt right at home in his new city, receiving a warm welcome to the stage. Blue's subdued and moody performance was balanced by limited production, letting his vocal ability (and saxophone) shine through. For fans of r'n'b and blues, Puma Blue is certainly a name to keep your eye on.

Arlo Parks' show felt like the grand finale to an Emmy-dominating series; with Arlo and her band exhausting the last of their energy into the night. Everything felt right. Arlo's energy was unmatched, the band performed flawlessly, and even the lights reflected her shimmery hopefulness. From top to bottom, this show was perfectly crafted and executed.

Arlo is a natural performer. Her show felt ethereal, there was some kind of magic in the air. Her soft-spoken vocals and delicate instrumentation juxtaposed the energy she brought on stage. This mystical fog of sorts was penetrated by rays of vibrancy, showing Parks' immense range. The music was something you couldn't help but dance to, but in that kind of awkward shuffle in place way.

It was clear from the get-go that Arlo was in a state of bliss. This was her 126th show of the year, and was surely a relieving and heartbreaking one. When returning for her encore, it appeared Arlo was a bit choked up by it. Arlo's passion and drive for performing is rare and prominent, a facet that is incredibly valuable to a touring act.

Just a couple of festival appearances round out Arlo Parks' year, with a stop in Austin for ACL and then an appearance back across the pond before a small live hiatus for the musician.

Arlo Parks might just be one of my favorite live discoveries. Having only heard a couple of songs ahead of the show, it was exciting to see Arlo pull out stop after stop and genuinely surprise me with her talent. I would recommend an Arlo Parks show to anyone interested in alternative, indie, r'n'b, or quite frankly anything adjacent to those genres. She truly is a remarkable talent.
