Concert Review: The Band CAMINO at Avondale Brewing Company

April 17th, 2022 | Birmingham, AL

The Band CAMINO fight mother nature for as long as they can at a sold out show in Birmingham.

The Band CAMINO rolled into Avondale Brewing Company for the 16th show on "The Tour CAMINO." A sold out crowd of 2,800 fans from across the southeast flocked into the venue. This was the band's third headlining tour, the first to not kickoff in Birmingham. They previously headlined Saturn and Iron City. Sadly, despite the best efforts of the band and venue the show was eventually cut short due to lightning and severe weather. "The Tour CAMINO" is in support of their second album, The Band CAMINO, and features special guests Flor and Hastings.

Up-and-comer Hastings kicked off the evening. His debut self-titled EP, Hastings, was released just last year but he's already gaining a ton of attention. Catchy, fun, and energetic, Hasting's music was a great way to get the night started. The pop-rock singer has seen hits "Blank Me" and "Chapstick" made the rounds online, as well as being a cowriter on The Band CAMINO's song "Roses." While still early to tell, I see a bright future for Hastings.

Flor was up next. The quintet brought some shimmery alternative pop tunes that felt reminiscent of the genre circa 2014-2016. Their lively performance and candid attitudes were a breath of fresh air in an industry where so many bands can be so... boring. Last time this group was in Birmingham they headlined Saturn, same place The Band CAMINO played just a few short years ago. Keep your eyes peeled.

The Band CAMINO is made up on Jeffery Jordan (vocals, guitar, keys), Spencer Stewart (vocals, guitar, keys), Garrison Burgess (drums). Jordan and Stewart traded off on lead vocals throughout the set, something especially noticeable on their hit song "Daphne Blue." The two frontmen also went back and forth between their electric guitars and keys to provide a high energy and spacey sound. Burgess' drumming was crisp, his large drum kit giving him plenty of tools to utilize. The band was backed up by a touring bassist.

Sandwiched between Jeffery and Spencer were two risers, giving the frontmen a spot to strut and hype up the crowd. The band knew their time was going to be limited, so they gave it their all for the entire set. The band seemed genuinely upset about having to cut their show so short, a testament to the band's dedication to their fans.

The band's production was quite frankly insane. I counted over 110 lighting fixtures on stage, a behemoth of a build. The band didn't even have to use Avondale's massive video wall as their touring package was plenty. Concert goers who enjoy light shows, this ones for you.

Severe weather started to reapproach the venue during "Song About You," after which the band quickly ran out of time before they were shut down for safety. The band's set ended up being only 45 minutes, ending five minutes before they were initially set to play. Their setlist is below.

         2. Roses
         3. Less Than I Do

The Band CAMINO know how to rock. Despite the weather trying to ruin the night, they made the best out of a rough situation. I expect to see these guys return again, before leaving the stage they promised to return to Birmingham soon.
