Auburn Falls on Senior Night to No. 4 Arkansas

No. 19 Auburn falls 2-0 to No. 4 Arkansas on senior night who remain undefeated in conference play improving to 8-0-0. The Tigers move to 11-4 overall and record their third loss against SEC opponents.

The home team Tigers got out to a good start allowing only one shot in the first 17 minutes of play. Head coach Karen Hoppa kept her starting 11 on the field through the first 25 minutes of play before making substitutions. Unfortunately, this would be the only good news for Auburn the rest of the night.

Anna Podojil drew first blood in the 34th minute to put the Razorbacks up 1-0. The goal was assisted by Bryana Hunter and would spark the momentum for the remainder of the match. Arkansas controlled possession time for most of the first half and would take their lead into the half.

The final 45-minutes of play followed script from the first half. The match remained physical with a total of 18 fouls between top-20 contestants. In the 57th minute, Alyssa Malonson was awarded a yellow card.

In the 68th minute, Kayla McKeon gave Arkansas their insurance goal to go up 2-0. This would conclude the nights scoring as Auburn struggled to find their footing on offense going against one of the nation’s best. Maddie Prohaska ended the night with three saves on 16 shots. Hannah Warner recorded her sixth shutout of the season with three saves on only six shots.

Final Stats: (Auburn, Arkansas)

Shots – 16, 6

SOG – 7, 3

The Tigers with two games remaining in regular season play will be tested on Sunday when they visit No. 13 Ole Miss at 2 p.m. before the Iron Bowl of Soccer next Thursday to finish regular season play.
