Auburn defeats LSU off of a Marissa Arias game winner

The No. 22 ranked Auburn Tigers hosted the LSU Tigers at the Auburn Soccer Complex this afternoon. There was not a lot of action in the first half, as the score was tied at nil at the break and LSU only had one shot at that point. It was off-goal by Tinaya Alexander.

The second half was more of the same, also ending with both teams being knotted up at nil. Marissa Arias put through a goal two and a half minutes into the first overtime period to give Auburn the 1-0 victory.

Auburn had 20 shots, seven being on goal. LSU had nine shots, only one being on goal. LSU goal keeper Mollee Swift made six saves, while Auburn goal keeper Maddie Prohaska only had to make one save for Auburn to get the win.

The game-winning goal by Marissa Arias was assisted by Alyssa Malonson. There were a lot of fouls called, but no penalties in this competitive matchup. LSU had 11 fouls called on them, while Auburn only had seven. With this one being in the books, Auburn will start preparing for their next contest against Florida down in Gainesville next Sunday at noon.
