Concert Review: Dayglow at Center Stage Theater

October 12th, 2021 | Atlanta, GA

Dayglow overcomes a rough day to perform a sold out show at Atlanta's Center Stage Theater.

Last time Sloan and company were in Atlanta it was in the same building. The band played the Vinyl stage, the smallest at Center Stage and just under 1/3rd of the capacity the show they just played. Hovvdy opened, replacing the band Arlie after they had to drop from the tour.

The band powered through catastrophic issues that by all means should have cancelled their show. On their way to Atlanta the band's tour bus broke down in Montgomery, AL, reportedly losing a wheel. Doors were pushed back 30 minutes and Hovvdy played a stripped back duo set. Sloan and the rest of the touring party did not arrive on site until 8:15pm, hours late and during Hovvdy's set. This show should not have happened, but they made it happen. The band soundchecked in front of the entire crowd and sadly had to cut much of their lighting package. Dayglow still managed to go on stage at 9:30 and perform their full set.

Dayglow's mix of dreamier leaning pop music and high energy bangers made for a wild night. After a wild opening, the band went into a more "prom night" sound mid-set. The energy quickly turned back around for the closing, with their two biggest hits "Can I Call You Tonight?" and "Close To You" closing out their regular set.

In addition to playing tracks from both Fuzzybrain and Harmony House, Dayglow ended their set with a melody of Tears for Fears' "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" and their fan-favorite song "Run the World!!!"

While Dayglow is primarily the solo project of Texas native Sloan Struble, the band was something to write home about. Despite the hectic day they played tight and had a blast. You could tell early on Sloan and the band were flustered, the mix was still being worked on as the performed, but after the kinks of the day were worked out it was full send.

Dayglow put on a fantastic concert after a less-than-fantastic day. It's a sign of true musicians to continue a show after what they went through, a show that the crowd of 1,000 will remember for a long time.
