Auburn Soccer Stays Undefeated With 4-1 Win Over UAB

AUBURN, Ala.- The Auburn Tigers defeated UAB at home Thursday night 4-1. Auburn remains undefeated, with four straight wins to open the 2021 season.

UAB tried to jump on Auburn early, with what they thought was a good goal at the 4:41 mark of the first half. Unfortunately for the Blazers, the official blew the whistle signaling offsides, and the goal was waved off.

Auburn then dusted off some of the rust from not playing in almost five days, and opened up the scoring with a late first-half goal from Kylie Bechard. The goal was assisted by Maddie Simpson and Mallory Mooney.

After halftime, UAB came out quick and struck fast as Lizzie Hill was able to put one home on the Auburn goalie Maddie Prohaska. This made it 1-1 within the first minute of the second half, and UAB was looking to take advantage of the early second half goal.

That didn’t last long though, as Auburn’s Sydney Richards took matters into her own hands and snatched the lead right back with an unassisted goal just 16 seconds after UAB’s equalizer to make the score 2-1.

Richards would then go on to score another goal to give her two on the night, this one coming in the 56th minute of the second half to extend Auburn’s lead to two. The junior from Plano, Texas ended the night with two goals and ultimately the two go-ahead goals for Auburn.

To cap off the night, redshirt sophomore Kylie Bechard netted her second of the night as well, giving Auburn a commanding 4-1 lead, which would eventually be the winning score for the Tigers.

The Tigers are back in action this Sunday when they host Chattanooga at the Auburn Soccer Complex, live on WEGL 91.1 FM and in conjunction with the Auburn Sports Network.
