Auburn Women's Basketball Falls To Missouri

The Auburn women’s basketball team scored its most points in an SEC game this season, but it was not enough in an 85-75 loss to Missouri Sunday afternoon at Auburn Arena.

Auburn had a slow start to the game, trailing 31-17 after the first quarter. Auburn bounced back in the second quarter, outscoring Missouri by eleven points and closing out the half on a 6-0 run.

Auburn’s defensive struggles caught up to the Tigers in the third quarter. Auburn was unable to recover from Missouri’s 20-4 run to start the second half. Missouri finished the game shooting 52 percent from behind the arc with nine three pointers made.

“Our defense wasn’t there,” Auburn head coach Terri Williams-Flournoy said. "You can't give up 85 points. Missouri's a very good offensive team, and to give up 85 points is just way too many. That third quarter run really hurt us.”

Auburn was led by sophomore guard Honesty Scott-Grayson, who had a career-high 30 points and made four of six three-point shots.

Senior forward Unique Thompson added 14 points and 13 points for her 12th double-double of the season.

Auburn had its best shooting performance against an SEC opponent this season, shooting 47 percent from the field. However, Auburn’s defense allowed its worst opponent field goal percentage of the season. Missouri shot just under 56 percent from the field against Auburn.

Missouri was led by Ladazhia Williams’ 19 points and Haley Troup’s 13 points and five assists. Aijha Blackwell had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

With the loss, Auburn falls to 5-13 (0-10), while Missouri improves to 7-7 (3-6).

Auburn travels to Athens on Thursday to take on No. 25 Georgia. Tip-off is set between Auburn and Georgia at 6 p.m. CT at Stageman Coliseum.
