Undefeated No. 14 Auburn to welcome Kentucky this Saturday

It’s been 34 days since the Auburn Tigers played their first match in their home opener against Mississippi State back on Sep. 18. Now ranked 14th by United Soccer Coaches, the Tigers remain the only undefeated team and one of five teams nationally ranked in the Southeastern Conference.

Currently sporting a 2-0-1 record, Auburn has played the fewest games in the SEC with cancellations of their matches at Texas A&M and LSU. Still on tap for the Tigers are two more ranked opponents with their match at seventh ranked Arkansas and ninth ranked Texas A&M rescheduled for Monday, Nov. 9th. Auburn is coming off a 1-0 win in Athens this past Sunday and having to play the last 35’ a player down after freshman keeper Maddie Prohaska was given a red card. Prohaska will not be available Saturday, Oct. 24 in their match against Kentucky.

The Wildcats come to the Plains winless, sporting an 0-3-2 record with their last two matches ending in ties against Georgia and Tennessee. Looking at the team’s head to head matchup, Auburn and Kentucky share a very similar stat line despite lopsided records.

Goals per game:    AU – 1.00     UK – 1.00

Shots per game:    AU – 10.7     UK – 10.4

Shots on goal%:    AU - .469       UK – .442

Saves per game:   AU – 6.67      UK – 7.2

Auburn also landed two more players on the Top Drawer Soccer honor list after Sunday's match against Georgia. Senior defender Sarah Houchin was named to the conference team of the week and freshman midfielder Anna Haddock earned honorable mention with her corner kick to defeat Ole Miss in the 109th minute.

Saturday’s game against Kentucky begins at 6 p.m. CST at the Auburn Soccer Complex. You can listen to the game exclusively on WEGL 91.1 FM or tune in on weglfm.com with Aidan Kowalski and Brendan McLaughlin on the call.
