On Saturday, November 11th, the first ever Live on the Plains took place at Sistrunk Farms in Opelika, Alabama. The festival was created by the same people who created the Auburn Rodeo, with the vibes of the festival being similar. The main difference between the two is that Live on the Plains is a straight music festival with no actual Rodeo in sight.
WEGL 91.1 FM and Peachtree Entertainment partnered together to bring a Live on the Plains ticket giveaway! On Nov. 9, the winners of the giveaway will be able to bring themselves and a friend to the Sistrunk Farms music festival, "Live on the Plains."
A crisp October evening painted by a golden sunset welcomed Birmingham audiences as they entered Avondale Brewing Company to listen to up-and-coming artist, Wyatt Flores. The 23-year-old kicked off his “Welcome To The Plains” tour in October, playing hits off his debut album under the same name.
This past Saturday, The Tabernacle in Atlanta transformed into a vibrant retreat for indie rock fans, with Benches and Inhaler delivering an electrifying night of music and camaraderie.
I have had a soft spot for Maggie Rogers ever since I saw her open for Kacey Musgraves on the "Oh What a World II Tour" in late 2019. I thought she was a captivating performer - she seemed to be in her own little world as she frolicked about the stage. Not too long afterwards, during the height of the pandemic, hers was one of about five NPR Tiny Desk Concerts on a near-constant rotation in my house.
On a still Sunday night in September, I arrived at the Coca-Cola Roxy in the heart of ATL to see a line stretching for many blocks past the entrance. A sold-out show billed as Fletcher's, but it was Maude Latour, the evening’s opener, who left an unforgettable impression. While Fletcher delivered her signature emotional sassy punch, Latour had the crowd hooked from the moment she stepped on stage, embodying the spirit of early 2000s pop-punk with an alt-pop feel.
New Misphoria, a two-piece band from Tucson, Ariz., performed at Termminal West on Sept. 16. They walked off the stage, as if leaving us intoxicatingly elated with music was another casual weekday evening.

It was a stormy night on April 10th, 2024. Fans packed into John Emerald Distillery to escape the rain and see Christian rock/folk artist Chris Renzema. The show marked Renzema’s debut in Opelika and the first show at John Emerald Distillery in 2024. He brought Christian rock band Citizens along as the opener.
When the pandemic happened in 2020, the whole world shut down. For the first time in existence, every human shared a collective sense of loneliness and isolation. In Rapture Waltz, Johnny Manchild captures his feelings of isolation and fear into a rock opera for the Poor Bastards 4th album.
Oklahoma-born roots rocker JD McPherson brought his crack band and a loose vibe to Waverly, Alabama on Feburary 25th. Playing the Little House at Standard Deluxe, McPherson said they were going to play some stuff they don’t normally play because “you’ve got this incredible place.” The band delivered an inspired mix of originals and covers, including his most well-known songs like “North Side Gal” off his debut album Signs & Signifiers, “Bossy,” “Lucky Penny” and “Head Over Heels.”
