Geese - 4D Country
Gregory Alan Isakov and Lucius step under the spotlight to compel the crowd at the Tabernacle last Friday.
Slauson Malone 1 - Excelsior
As soon as I approached the Tabernacle in Atlanta, GA, I was immediately met with all manner of eccentric characters anxiously awaiting to see Death Grips. The Sacramento-based experimental hip-hop group has gained a cult following who is well known for being outlandish and “in your face”, much like the band itself. They were founded by vocalist MC Ride (Stefan Burnett), drummer Zach Hill, and keyboardist Andy Morin. Morin parted with the band earlier this year, and thus many synth portions of the band’s catalog were replaced with guitar accompaniment from Nick Reinhart.
Wilco - Cousin
Dinosaur Jr. plays the masquerade along with American Football and Hello Mary right before celebrating the 30-year anniversary of album Where You Been
Pot Valiant - Never Return - September 22, 2023
MRI is an album written by the artist VC Pines about his experiences with epilepsy and synesthesia. In May 2023, VC released "Colours" as a single. "Colours" is a big theme for this album, as the artist mentioned that due to his experiences he now visualizes sounds as colors. Shortly after this release, "Dangling" and "Running" were also dropped as singles. The genre of this music style is difficult to pinpoint but could be described as some type of electro indie pop.
The final day of IMF 2023 began with the sun promising a warm and dry day as it rose over the Georgia horizon. Do you prefer a morning yoga class or party games to start your day? Imaginers can take their pick thanks to the different areas around the campgrounds. At Shakedown Street East we played cup pong, corn hole and the inflatable games as we waited for the gates to open. It even featured a small stage with an accompanying dance performer to keep the music going.
Saturday in Kingstown Downs, Georgia called for lots of rain. Although Imaginers waited in their camps until late afternoon for the sun to come out, you could hear the eager fans blasting EDM from their speakers getting excited for the packed day two. Once the gates opened for the day and people poured in we could all feel the love. For a festival of this size, the crowd was not overwhelming. I met wonderful people— strangers who will gladly dance with you and share their positive past experiences seeing the upcoming artists.
Kingston Downs opened their gates on a warm September day in Georgia to ravers and music lovers from all across the country. We set up camp and greeted our friendly neighbors all eager for the weekend to begin. Festival-goers adorned in vibrant outfits flooded the venue, eager to dive into a world of music, art, and unity. The security line into the grounds were very efficient in my experience, and the security personnel was welcoming. As the sun dipped below the horizon, the stages came to life, casting a mesmerizing glow across the festival grounds. The grounds had an increased amount of art installations compared to last year, yet they thankfully brought back the gigantic fire blowing elephant (which really comes in handy if you get cold at night). Friday started out STRONG— NBA basketball star strong— with Diesel AKA Shaquille O’Neal.
Will Johnson - No Ordinary Crown - Sep 15, 2023
Sparklehorse - Bird Machine - Sep 8, 2023
This year, Imagine Music Festival is bringing some of the biggest names in electronic dance music together in one place for an explosive weekend in Kingston Downs, Georgia. The festival will welcome Imaginers to camp, explore a variety of transformational workshops, splash around at pool parties, and even relax on the “What the Float” river tubing experience. From heart-pounding basslines to euphoric melodies, festival-goers can anticipate an eclectic range of musical genres, including trance, techno, house, hardstyle, and much more, catering to every musical taste.

Few bands have garnished the cult-like following of Panchiko over the last decade, but if any modern rockers could give them a run for their money, LSD and the Search for God would be at the top of the list. Without ever having had publicly released a studio album, the band still maintains recognition as one of modern shoegaze's top dogs, and on this warm summer evening they set the mood perfectly. Catchy riffs over a wall of fuzzy sound is something that listeners of the genre, and this group in particular, should be all too familiar with, but its always interesting to see how a shoegaze group can translate the music into a live performance. Here is where LSD showed their dexterity and experience, particularly in the rhythmic aspect. Shoegaze drumming often gets downplayed as simple and derivative, but Scott Eberhardt absolutely nailed it on hit songs like "Backwards" and "Starting Over", at times carrying the middle sections of some songs with crafty fills while Chris Fifield and Andy Liszt were working to achieve that perfect tone. In between songs the band, unsurprisingly, spent no time addressing the crowd, but instead used each songs lingering swirl of fuzz and delay to add a nice ambient feedback interlude between each song, yielding a nice sense of continuity across the set. The 45 some-odd minutes of noise built up into an extended cut of an unreleased song "New," which closed the set perfectly.
